 Es parte de la naturaleza humana tratar de evitar las pruebas y las dificultades a toda costa.  Nadie lucha por las dificultades, el fracaso y el rechazo.  Estamos superando las incomodidades e inconvenientes para que nuestras familias tengan una vida mejor.  Pero las acciones tienen consecuencias correspondientes, algunas son dulces frutos del trabajo y otras son frutos amargos para soportar.  A veces, en los momentos de sufrimiento, es fácil cuestionar a Dios.  A veces, las dificultades prolongadas pueden tentarnos a dudar de Dios.  En este versículo, la esposa de Job le aconsejó que maldijera al Señor después de haber perdido sus propiedades e hijos.  Job estaba afligido con repugnantes llagas desde la planta del pie hasta la coronilla.  Job no estaba disfrutando de lo que estaba pasando, pero sabía que Dios todavía tenía el control de todo.  ¿Solo alabamos y adoramos a Dios durante los buenos tiempos y luego lo culpamos durante los malos?  ¿O redoblamos nuestra fe durante la tormenta?  En última instancia, podemos quejarnos con Dios y no aprender nada de las pruebas que enfrentamos, o confiamos firmemente en Él y crecemos más profundamente en nuestra relación y fe en Él.  - Comentario de Mark Natividad

"Only in Good Times?,"

Today's Verse:

But he said to her, “You speak as any foolish woman would speak. Shall we receive the good at the hand of God, and not receive the bad?” In all this Job did not  sin with his lips. - Job 2:10

It's human nature to try to avoid trials and difficulties at all costs. No one strives for hardship, failure, and rejection. We’re working through discomforts and inconveniences for our families to have a better life. But actions have corresponding consequences, some are sweet fruits of labor and some are bitter fruits to endure. Sometimes in the moments of suffering, it’s easy to question God. Prolonged hardship can sometimes tempt us to doubt God. In this verse, the wife of Job advised him to curse the Lord after they had lost their property and children. Job was afflicted with loathsome sores from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. Job wasn’t enjoying what he was going through but he knew God’s still in control of everything. Do we only praise and worship God during good times then blame Him during the bad? Or do we double down in our faith during the storm? Ultimately, we can either complain to God and learn nothing from the trials we face, or we steadfastly trust in Him and grow deeper in our relationship and faith in Him. - Commentary by Mark Natividad

Our Heavenly Father, forgive us for blaming and doubting You in times of suffering, trials, and hardship. Lord, renew our strength. Please comfort us and fortify our faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

 Recuerda las maravillas que ha hecho, sus milagros y los juicios que ha pronunciado… - Salmo 105: 5

Today's Verse:

Remember the wonderful works he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he has uttered… - Psalm 105:5

This verse is a reminder that we should not forget the wonderful works that God has done. However, human as we are, we are prone to forget what the Lord does for us. That is why we are constantly reminded of it in the scriptures. To forget His wonderful and marvelous works would mean that we are just taking Him for granted. Let's say, for example, God sees we are pinned under a huge burden or say a mountain, and in dire need of help and He loves us so much He moves the mountains to help us and we don't even return to say, thank you after. If that happened to us we would feel taken for granted, hurt, and unappreciated. We need to reflect on God's goodness and always be grateful for what He has done in our lives and world. Doing this results in loving Him, praising, glorifying, magnifying, and worshiping Him. One of the best ways to be reminded of God’s work is to constantly read His Word. - Commentary By: Jeremy B. Versículo de hoy:

 ¿No debería preocuparme por Nínive, esa gran ciudad, en la que hay más de ciento veinte mil personas que no distinguen su diestra de su izquierda - Jonás 4: 11a

 Es importante notar los últimos versículos de Jonás.  Es aquí donde Jonás aprende una lección extremadamente valiosa sobre la gracia y la misericordia de Dios.  No podía verlo antes debido a la condición de su corazón.  Dios le recuerda a Jonás que aunque los ninivitas vivían en tinieblas espirituales, Su misericordia todavía jugó un papel en traerlos de regreso de esa oscuridad.  Hay momentos en los que nosotros, como seres humanos, nos olvidamos del panorama general.  Estamos tan absortos en los detalles que no vemos cuál es el meollo del asunto.  Así como Dios usó esta experiencia para enseñarle a Jonás a ver más allá de sus propios deseos, Dios puede hacer lo mismo por nosotros hoy.  De hecho, existe un panorama más amplio, y con la ayuda de Dios también podemos verlo.  - Comentario de: Matthew Elliott

Today's Verse:

Should I not be concerned about Nineveh, that great city, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand persons who do not know their right hand from their left - Jonah 4:11a

The last few verses of Jonah are important to note. It is here that Jonah learns an extremely valuable lesson about God’s grace and mercy. He could not see it before because of the condition of his heart. God reminds Jonah that even though the Ninevites were living in spiritual darkness, His mercy still played a part in bringing them back from that darkness. There are times when we, as humans, forget about the bigger picture. We get so wrapped up in the details that we don’t see what is at the heart of the matter. Just as God used this experience to teach Jonah to see past his own desires, God can do the same for us today. There is indeed a bigger picture, and with God’s help we can see it too. - Commentary by: Matthew Elliott

Father God, I know that there are times in which all I can see is what’s right in front of me. As I grow in my faith, I pray that You will show me just how big the picture truly is and that You will help me embrace it. Amen.

Verso de hoy:

 El Señor Dios dispuso una zarza, y la hizo brotar sobre Jonás, para darle sombra sobre su cabeza y salvarlo de su malestar;  así que Jonás estaba muy feliz por el arbusto.  - Jonás 4: 6

"An Unforgiving Heart,"

Today’s Verse:

The Lord God appointed a bush, and made it come up over Jonah, to give shade over his head to save him from his discomfort; so Jonah was very happy about the bush. - Jonah  4:6

This scripture takes place as Jonah sat upon the top of a mountain waiting for God to pass Judgement on Nineveh. God provided shelter for Jonah from the blistering heat. In spite of the fact that God had chosen to relinquish His judgment on the Ninevites, Jonah waited for it to happen. While he waited God protected him for a time from the repercussions of His prideful heart. However, in the very next verse, that protection is removed. Sometimes we need to learn hard lessons in our spiritual walk. God is always listening and protects us until the time is right for us to learn our lessons. This part of Jonah’s story is one of those times when Jonah needed to learn the hard lessons of forgiveness and that God loves all his people, including the sinners in Nineveh. -  Commentary by: Matthew Elliott

Verso de hoy:
Una respuesta suave apaga la ira, pero una palabra dura provoca ira.  - Proverbios 15: 1
Este versículo dice la verdad que es común a muchos argumentos y disputas.  Las cosas solo empeorarán si su respuesta a un comentario de enojo son palabras duras y ofensivas.  Es como echar gasolina sobre un objeto en llamas.  Este versículo demuestra una solución simple pero muy desafiante para enfrentar a alguien con ira ardiente.  Nos dice que respondamos en voz baja porque una respuesta suave puede alejar la ira.  Significa que puede apagar la llama ardiente de la ira.  Podemos decir que esto es muy desafiante porque enfrentar a alguien con ira ardiente puede ser contagioso.  Existe una gran tendencia a que el que se enfrenta a una persona enojada puede perder la paciencia y también estallar en ira.  Cuando mantenga la calma, mantenga el control de sí mismo y practique responder en voz baja, esas palabras suaves pueden vencer el poder de la ira incontrolada.  - Comentario de: Jeremy B. A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. - Proverbs 15:1
This verse tells the truth that is common to many arguments and disputes. Things will only get worse if your answer to an angry remark is harsh and offensive words. It’s like pouring gasoline on a burning object. This verse proves a simple and yet very challenging solution to facing someone with burning anger. It tells us to answer softly because a soft answer can turn away wrath. It means that it can extinguish the burning flame of anger. We can say that this is very challenging because facing someone with burning anger can be contagious. There is a huge tendency that the one facing an angry person can lose their patience and will also burst into anger.  Este cambio de planes molestó mucho a Jonás y se enojó mucho.  Entonces se quejó al Señor por ello.  - Jonás 4: 1-2a

 Parece que todos nos quejamos cuando las cosas no salen como queremos.  Ocurre la mayoría de las veces.  A veces ni siquiera nos damos cuenta de que lo estamos haciendo.  Jonás había hecho lo que Dios le había pedido, a pesar de cómo se sentía.  Cuando el Señor no juzgó a los ninivitas, Jonás se sintió amargado.  Probablemente se preguntó cómo puede ser esto, ¿estos tipos son horribles pecadores?  ¿Por qué obtienen un pase gratis, cuando un pez gigante me tragó por algo mucho menos?  Muchos de nosotros probablemente hemos tenido pensamientos similares cuando las cosas no salen como queremos o la vida parece injusta.  La amargura, la ira y el orgullo a menudo pueden infiltrarse en nuestros pensamientos y hacer que actuemos mal.  Recuerde que los caminos de Dios están por encima de los nuestros y su misericordia es infinita.  Perdona a los demás como Él te ha perdonado a ti y encuentra la paz en Su perdón.  - Comentario de: Matthew Elliott

This change of plans greatly upset Jonah, and he became very angry. So he complained to the Lord about it. - Jonah 4:1-2a

We all seem to complain when things don’t go the way we want them to. It happens more often than not. Sometimes we don’t even realize we are actually doing it. Jonah had done what God had asked of him, in spite of how he felt. When the Lord did not pass judgment on the Ninevites, it struck a sour chord with Jonah. He probably wondered how can this be, these guys are horrible sinners? Why do they get a free pass, when I was swallowed by a giant fish for something far less? Many of us have probably had similar thoughts when things don’t go our way or life seems unfair. Bitterness, anger, and pride can often creep into our thoughts and cause us to act poorly. Remember God’s ways are above ours and His mercy is endless. Forgive others as He has forgiven you and find peace in His forgiveness. - Commentary by: Matthew Elliott

Father God, I know I sometimes complain about my life. Today, I ask that You help me see more of the good than the bad. Show me how You would have me act when my life begins to take that sour turn.

Verso De Hoy:

La persona perezosa dice: “¡Hay un león en el camino!  ¡Hay un león en las calles! "  - Proverbios 26:13

 Hay un dicho filipino: "Si la persona lo quiere, habría cientos de formas, pero si no, habría mil excusas".  Esto es cierto, como lo demuestra el hecho de ser padre de dos niños pequeños.  Mi esposa y yo nos volveríamos locos si no nos mantuviéramos firmes en enseñarles los caminos correctos.  En los días escolares, sería difícil despertarlos temprano en la mañana ya que mi hija de siete años solía poner excusas sin sentido al negarse a levantarse.  Si los dejábamos para que arreglaran la cama, a veces se volvían a dormir.  ¡Esto es solo el comienzo del día e imagínese lidiar con ellos todo el día!  Mis hijos no son perezosos, pero este pasaje nos muestra cómo una persona perezosa daría excusas escandalosas para no trabajar o evitar el trabajo.  La imaginación de una persona perezosa puede evocar todas las cosas que podrían salir mal.  Deberíamos dejar de inventar excusas por completo.  En cambio, debemos motivarnos para desempeñarnos y trabajar, y no terminar convirtiéndonos en una persona perezosa que no logra nada en absoluto.  - Comentario de Mark Natividad

Today’s Verse:

The lazy person says, “There is a lion on the road! There is a lion on the streets!” - Proverbs 26:13

There’s a Filipino saying: “If the person wants it, there would be a hundred ways, but if they don’t, there’d be a thousand excuses.” This is true as evidenced by being a parent to two young kids. My wife and I would go crazy if we didn’t stand firm in teaching them the correct ways. On school days, it would be difficult to wake them up early in the morning as my seven-year-old daughter would usually make nonsense excuses refusing to get up. If we would leave them to fix their bed, sometimes they would go back to sleep again. This is just the start of the day and just imagine dealing with them the whole day! My children are not lazy but this passage shows us how a lazy person would make outrageous excuses in order not to work or avoid work. A lazy person’s imagination can conjure up all the things that could go wrong. We should stop making up excuses altogether. Instead, we should motivate ourselves to perform and work, and not end up becoming a lazy person who doesn’t accomplish anything at all. - Commentary by Mark Natividad

 El apóstol Pablo les presentó a los creyentes de Éfeso que nuestra salvación se hizo en la mente de Dios hace miles de años antes de la creación del mundo.  Esto representa el gran amor de Dios por nosotros.  Significa que ya estaba pensando en ti antes de crear el mundo entero.  Por eso Dios nos ama tanto.  También debemos entender que nada lo obliga o requiere que Él haga eso por nosotros.  Según el versículo, todo fue según "el beneplácito de su voluntad".  Esto debería recordarnos que debemos ofrecerle a Dios nuestra lealtad eterna por lo que hizo por nosotros.  No somos esclavos ni sirvientes;  somos sus hijos.  Entonces, como Sus hijos, debemos vivir nuestra vida de una manera que agrade a nuestro Padre Celestial y amarlo por encima de todo.  - Comentario de: Jeremy B. He destined us for adoption as his children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace that he freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. - Ephesians 1:5-6

Apostle Paul presented to the Ephesian believers that our salvation was done in the mind of God thousands of years ago before the world was created. This represents God’s great love for us. It means that He was already thinking about you before He created the entire world. That is why God loves us so much. We also need to understand that nothing compels Him or requires Him to do that for us. According to the verse, it was all according to “the good pleasure of His will.” This should remind us that we should offer God our undying loyalty for what He did for us. We are not slaves or servants; we are His children. There are times in life when we assume that our desires are in line with God’s will. We somehow disregard the process of asking Him if what we desire is His will for us. We are afraid to learn that our plans are in disagreement with His. Following the wrong path has led many believers into unnecessary and unwanted situations, because they did things their way without asking God to guide them. Always remember that as human beings we make mistakes, and are often in conflict with God’s will.  God’s ways are on a higher level, and we may not understand why He chooses for things to be a certain way but we still need to trust Him. He sees all things in the future, while we can only assume what is about to happen. Let us therefore, lay down all our earthly longings and start inquiring what God wants for us. Sometimes it’s really difficult to grasp how God works, isn’t it? There are moments when it seems His love is all that we see. While this is true, God reveals His love in many different ways. In this instance, God told the Ninevites that He was going to destroy them, then they repented and God changed His mind. In our lives there may be those moments in which we feel like all that’s hitting us is the bad, but the reality is that God is working even harder in those times. The warning that was given through Jonah really caught the King's attention. He then called the city to repentance. One of the most difficult attitudes to get rid of in life is pride. This world has taught us to focus only on ourselves, and forget others in order to be successful. This idea is completely opposite to what God has taught us in His word. We are supposed to love others as we love ourselves. We have to let go of our selfish ambition and pride, and start regarding others as better than ourselves. God wants us to do things selflessly and not selfishly. That’s the best way to live out humility in our lives. The keyword I am focussing on here is "if." Forgiving others is not negotiable. It's something God wants us to do, and it’s for our own good. Forgiving people can be the hardest thing to do at times especially when someone has hurt us repeatedly. Forgiving can be easier if we try to change our thinking, and remember we are all God's children, and Jesus died for all of us, not just some of us. Out of love, Jesus suffered incredible torture and yet even while suffering on the cross He quickly asked God to forgive those who crucified Him. He sacrificed Himself for all of us sinners therefore, the least we can do is obey God and forgive others when they sin against us. Try to remind yourself that you have free will but ultimately God is in control. Maybe this person is in my life for a reason and a purpose. We all learn from each other; this situation might be a lesson in letting go of control, pride or stubbornness. Let's be honest, in our flawed nature sometimes it can feel a little satisfying to hold a grudge but that is unhealthy and not God's will. Humility is the cure for pride and it takes humility to apologize or accept that outstretched hand and forgive. We must forgive so that we can be forgiven. The apostle Paul was once known as a persecutor of the church. However, after his conversion he became one of the most dedicated followers of Christ. His life should be viewed as a great encouragement for every human being who has gravely sinned. It proves that in life transformation is possible, even for the worst sinner. The mercy he received was a great display of God’s love and patience he has for all His children. That means God is not condemning us in our present condition. He extends compassion and love to call us back to His ways. If we respond to Him as Paul did, our lives will never be the same again. We are chosen to be an example to the people around us. Our life should be a blessing to those who need to come to believe in Jesus for eternal life. This is the most integral part in reaching out to the lost. "Search Me,"

Today’s Verse:

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. - Psalm 139:23-24

One of the most common bits of advice I get regarding decision making is to never make one during the highs and lows in life. Let it pass when we are extremely happy or sad and depressed. Don’t be compelled to settle for a choice while in those states. This holds to be true but I realized I would never decide without including God. Why? Because who knows the future but Him? Who knows what’s best for us but Him? Who knows us more and our motives than Him? Sometimes, it is unavoidable to get hurt and immediately decide to retaliate or fight back against our offenders. Chaos ensues when we obey our instincts. But if we make a habit to stop in our tracks and call unto God, we can handle almost anything that is thrown against us! The ones who break and lose patience first are always on the losing end. But if we regularly practice taking our thoughts captive to Him, we would not end up doing something that will displease God. - Commentary by: Mark Natividad

 Jonás acababa de ser escupido de la boca del pez gigante y Dios lo llamó por segunda vez.  Esta vez Jonás respondió y obedeció Su llamado.  Viajó a Nínive y pronunció el mensaje que Dios le había encomendado.  Tampoco era uno de esos mensajes fáciles de escuchar.  Fue un mensaje duro con una fuerte advertencia de Dios mismo para la gente de Nínive: "Arrepiéntanse o sean destruidos".  Ese es un mensaje bastante alarmante, ¿no?  Sin embargo, era exactamente lo que los ninivitas necesitaban escuchar.  A veces en la vida necesitamos escuchar esas fuertes advertencias de advertencia para que Dios realmente nos llegue.  Nunca es fácil, pero a veces es exactamente lo que necesitamos escuchar y actuar.  - Comentario de: Matthew Elliott

Today’s Verse:

The people of Nineveh believed God’s message, and from the greatest to the least, they declared a fast and put on burlap to show their sorrow. - Jonah 3:5

Jonah had just been spit out of the mouth of the giant fish and God called him a second time. This time Jonah responded and obeyed His call. He journeyed to Nineveh and spoke the message that God had tasked him with. It wasn’t one of those messages that are easy to hear either. It was a hard message with a strong warning from God himself for the people of Nineveh, “repent or be destroyed.” That's a pretty alarming message isn’t it? However, it was exactly what the Ninevites needed to hear. Sometimes in life we need to hear those strong cautionary warnings for God to actually get through to us. It’s never easy, but sometimes it’s exactly what we need to hear and act on. - Commentary by: Matthew Elliott

 Dios siempre exige una respuesta de nosotros cuando está a punto de hacer algo grandioso.  Cuando se le prometió a Josué que podría llevar a los israelitas a la tierra prometida, su respuesta fue de gran valor.  Dios a través de Moisés le dijo que fuera valiente y no temiera porque Dios exige una respuesta fiel y confiada de nosotros.  Este versículo nos dice que nos aferremos a la confesión de nuestra esperanza sin vacilar por el bien de las cosas que esperábamos y por las que oramos en la vida.  Así es como respondemos a la fidelidad de Dios.  Esto no es algo nuevo en lo que creer, porque Dios ha demostrado ser fiel al cumplir todas sus promesas desde el Antiguo hasta el Nuevo Testamento.  Dios quiere que lo sujetes firmemente y no te decepcionará.  - Comentario de: Dionivie M. God always demands a response from us whenever He is about to do something great. When Joshua was promised that he would be able to lead the Israelites to the promised land, his response was great courage. God through Moses told him to be courageous and be not afraid because God demands a faithful, trusting response from us. This verse tells us to hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering for the sake of the things we hoped and prayed for in life. This is how we respond to God’s faithfulness. This is not a new thing to believe in, for God has proven Himself faithful by fulfilling all His promises from the Old Testament to the New Testament. We all struggle with something, be it a physical ailment, illness, or fear of something. We call these our, “weaknesses.” Being constantly reminded of our physical limitations every day teaches us to depend on God’s strength and provision all the more. It is precisely when I feel like I can’t go on that the strength the Lord gives me is even stronger and more real. It is when things seem darkest that the light and hope the Lord gives shines through the most. God is ever faithful, and we often feel it most strongly when we are at our lowest point. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians, "God’s weakness is stronger than human strength." I have often prayed for the Lord to sustain me through the next minute, hour, and day. He has always answered my prayers and proven faithful. I can trust Him to save me. I'll say to myself “I will have a peaceful day no matter what.” Then something unexpected comes up, something else interrupts my schedule for the day, or a health issue arises. It doesn’t take long before I’m frazzled, worn out, and not having a very good day. However, I have to stop and remember that my peace should not be based on circumstances, because peace is a gift from God in all situations. So, when unexpected things come up, instead of giving in to the chaos, I’m going to try something different. I’m going to take a deep breath or two, re-focus, and remember that my peace comes from God. He will help me through any difficulty because He is my peace. There will always be moments when you feel as if your life is slipping away. In this chapter, Jonah shares a good example of this. Because Jonah had disobeyed God’s command he was now in the belly of that giant fish, and his life truly was slipping away. Just as Jonah reached out to God in his time of need, we too can do the same. Truthfully, God longs for us to reach out to Him in all things. You may be facing a situation presently that has given you a feeling of helplessness. Stop and pray in faith. Give God the opportunity to hear your earnest prayer.
